It’s not every day we get the opportunity to brand a product that hasn’t even hit the market yet. That was the brief from our client who invented KBAR®, a security device for kayaks.

It’s a reality for outdoor adventure hobbyists that their kayaks can be stolen – to combat this, our client meticulously developed KBAR®, a lock that would render the boat useless where it to be stolen.
We put ourselves in a would-be adventurer’s boots, which inspired our strategy. We chose to focus on the idea of freedom. We positioned KBAR® as a product that would give the user peace of mind and the freedom to explore the great outdoors. We developed its strapline, ‘Protect your adventure’ which succinctly conveys our whole concept while the idea is more fully realised in the brand purpose and core brand values.
Look & feel
When creating the branding, we took inspiration from a cross-section of security and lifestyle brands which KBAR® inhabits. We wanted to capture the credibility and trust of the security aspect of the product while recognising its deep roots in being a lifestyle brand – one that celebrates the great outdoors and relishes in adventure.
The result
Creating the look and feel, purpose and core brand values for a new product is something our team has thoroughly enjoyed. The result is a robust identity and pitch presentation for our client to acquire companies they can potentially partner with and build an exciting outdoor brand.
